GDrive Hacks and Info

These pages are believed to have been only visible to Google employees and had been linked to a recent Google acquisition, Writely - accessible at http://writely.com/index.html. This has been taken down but there is a mirror available.

Are these the first glimpses of the GDrive

Pulled much too early, it appears that the first glimpses of the Gdrive have been found online by bloggers searching for the machinations of their favorite discovery target, Google. Geekness describes the finding (Note: since his post has been Dugg, you may have issues accessing the site).

Corsin Carmichel reports that GDrive’s (Codenamed Platypus) feature set includes:

“# Backup. If you lose your computer, grab a new one and reinstall Platypus. Your files will be on your new machine in minutes.
# Sync. Keep all your machines synchronized, even if they run different operating systems.
# VPN-less access. Not at a Google computer? View your files on the web at http://troutboard.com/p.
# Collaborate. Create shared spaces to which multiple Googlers can write.
# Disconnected access. On the plane? VPN broken? All your files are still accessible.”

Google Calendar is live

Dave Winer broke the news and Mike Arrington confirmed it - everyone’s favorite mega SE just launched Google Calendar.

The screenshots have been leaked/shown before but the live example looks good. Looks like you need a Gmail account to login but once there, you’re presented with a nice clean monthly calendar, with views for day/weekly/month/next 4 days/agenda. Features Ive played with so far include the ability to invite people to an event and searching for public calendars.

On the search, it looks like they have honed in on their own calendars and iCals. It also looks like you will be able to incorporate different holiday calendars as well as view your friend’s calendars. In the settings, you’ll be able to setup alerts via email/SMS/pop-up. Importing of existing calendars is available via csv and iCal format.

Great tool so far.
